Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month–which I think most of us know, simply because everything turns pink in October. Even the Colts Mascot, Blue, isn’t blue in October. He’s pink. The Canal here in Indianapolis is pink, ribbons are pink, t-shirts are pink.

I have a little trouble with this, since it seems like it’s just a bandwagon that a lot of retailers hop on in order to sell pink items. Let’s be real, I thought about it. However, buying something pink doesn’t really further the purpose of BCAM, other than raising awareness…maybe it would be better to donate that money directly to care and research for cancer and cancer patients?

I’ve done the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure (walked it), for several years. Again, it’s a great way to raise awareness and hopefully a good chunk of money that’s not spent on t-shirts and race paraphernalia goes towards research.

Instead of encouraging you to buy something pink from our website, I’d like to encourage you to go to an accredited charity for cancer research and consider donating even just a little. You can try the Komen site, if you like. Here’s a link.
