Small Business Saturday

Hey, I know we don’t have a brick and mortar shop, but we’re participating in Shop Small anyway! So, in addition to Cyber Monday, you can take advantage of some great deals on Saturday, November 30th. The best part? You don’t have to go ANYWHERE. You can shop from wherever you are assuming you have a mobile device or computer handy.

At checkout, choose between these deals:
1. Free Shipping and free Pink Revenge camisole (as supplies last) SBSPink  (Please note size in comment section.)
2. 20% off your entire cart!  Even items on sale.  SBS20

And with BOTH…we’re enclosing a little something fun. 🙂

Yelp Totally Bazaar 2013

We’re excited to announce that we will be back at the Yelp Bazaar in Indianapolis this December 12, a Thursday evening. The event is open 6-10pm, located at the Old City Hall (202 N. Alabama Street). We’ll be grouped with the other fashion vendors in the Pattern Indy area.

The historic building has housed the State Museum and the Central Library, but has been empty for about five years. It most recently housed the annual convention of the National Trust for Historic Preservation (via Indiana Landmarks). If you would like to view images of the building, click here for a recent article with gallery.

If you’ve never been to Yelp Bazaar, stop in–it’s very worth it! Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for lots to see; there are many vendors and there were a lot of attendees last year.

First Friday!

We’re celebrating the new office space of our collaborator, Aesthetic Design Style House. Join us tonight–November 1st–for some in-person shopping, meet the designer, and see the new products first hand. We’re having a drawing for a Cat Nap gift set: a red plush 5’x6′ blanket, a Winter Nights sleep mask, and a pair of red gold toe women’s socks.

Where? 1021 E. Michigan St., Indianapolis, IN 46202
When? 6-9pm

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month–which I think most of us know, simply because everything turns pink in October. Even the Colts Mascot, Blue, isn’t blue in October. He’s pink. The Canal here in Indianapolis is pink, ribbons are pink, t-shirts are pink.

I have a little trouble with this, since it seems like it’s just a bandwagon that a lot of retailers hop on in order to sell pink items. Let’s be real, I thought about it. However, buying something pink doesn’t really further the purpose of BCAM, other than raising awareness…maybe it would be better to donate that money directly to care and research for cancer and cancer patients?

I’ve done the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure (walked it), for several years. Again, it’s a great way to raise awareness and hopefully a good chunk of money that’s not spent on t-shirts and race paraphernalia goes towards research.

Instead of encouraging you to buy something pink from our website, I’d like to encourage you to go to an accredited charity for cancer research and consider donating even just a little. You can try the Komen site, if you like. Here’s a link.

Awesomeness

It might be a little weird for one of our first blog posts to be about another company, but listen up and find out why. Awestomy is a company near (about 8 miles away) and dear to us. We have worked closely with them in the development of their undergarments for people with ostomies.

Their goal was to not only provide some good looking, great fitting undergarments specifically for people with ostomies, but also provide support and information via social media–which they have done in spades. They have some great reviews of their products out there to view.

About a month ago they started a Kickstarter campaign. On Saturday the 21, the campaign ends–and it is so, so close. Now, while I don’t think that not being funded is the end of the world–I think they will continue to grow and succeed as they already have been–it is a psychological barrier to not meet goal, especially when the goal is very reasonable.

I ask you to go to their campaign: Awestomy-Ostomy Apparel With Attitude and consider contributing. Even just for the pure pleasure that their sense of humor provides…who can resist a good poop joke? I’m sure you have a dollar or two in change just hanging around at the bottom of your purse, or on the kitchen counter. Put it to good use and support a company that is going somewhere!

Changing of the Seasons

I don’t know what the weather has been like where you are, but here in the Indianapolis area it has been a hot and humid summer, even through September. We’ve had a taste of fall, though, these past few days, and it puts me more in the mind set of putting together our fall and winter pieces.

Transitional weather brings to mind layering pieces–the day might start of chilly, but at midday the sun is out and you’re back down to a short sleeved shirt. Cardigans, denim jackets, leggings, cropped and bolero jackets are great ways to layer for the season.

It’s also, incidentally, a great time to set your sights on a new project, and we felt like it’s a great time to launch our new website and officially launch our new name and logo. Welcome to Rue Violet! We’re developing not only new sleep and lingerie pieces, but some separates that will be a versatile and fun addition to your wardrobe.

Stay tuned!
